Fireplaces



November 24 Van Zoetendaal Gallery will open the exhibition Fireplaces by Johannes Schwartz. Johannes Schwartz (Munich, Germany, 1970) lives and works in Amsterdam. In his work Schwartz documents the absence of people and reveals their traces in nature, architecture and interiors, and thereby creates photographic still lives. The photographs are abstractions, sometimes with a surrealist effect, hinting at what has been or was left behind. In 2007 he was awarded the Cobra Art Prize for the innovative and experimental approach in his work. Recent exhibitions include: Passion, Cobra Museum of Modern Art, Amstelveen, the Netherlands (2010); High Land (with Experimental Jetset), By the way projects, Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2009); Teaching Photography, Museum Folkwang Essen, Germany (2010); Stair/Stare (with Herman Verkerk and Experimental Jetset), Marres, Maastricht, the Netherlands (2007). Dutch Pavilion, Venice Biennale (2011). Since 2003 Schwartz has published an ongoing series of publications High in collaboration with graphic designers Experimental Jetset. On this occasion Fireplaces will be the following publication in the High Series in a limited edition.
Until March 4, 2012 Johannes Schwartz shows new photographs of Berlage furniture at The Gemeentemuseum The Hague in the exhibition Straight-Backed Chairs, Upright Citizens.
